We all grow up having listened to the phrase, "Follow your heart." and what more with Disney emphasising it and making kids and adults alike feel like that's the best way to live your life - to just do it, just do what your heart tells you to.
But let me tell you, the heart (let's just be honest) isn't always filled with desires to do all things noble and all things nice. In fact, all the more I learn about myself and the desires of my heart, the more ashamed I am of it, of how deceitful and of how selfish it can be. It's always a constant battle with the spirit.
Follow your heart and all its desires? Most of the time, people'll end up having to pay for the consequences of rash actions.
"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" Jeremiah 17:9
"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." Proverbs 4:23
Purify my heart Oh Lord.
